AD – this is a paid advertorial but all thoughts are my own.
Is your Pinterest account currently full of cute wedding stationery and decorative signs? Wishing you could create something similar but don’t think you have the creative flare or room in your wedding budget? Well this post is for you! Today we’re going to be talking about just how you can create gorgeous wedding stationery and signs with little to no design skills and a small budget! You know we love homemade weddings around here so carry on reading to see just how easy it is to create DIY wedding stationary.

A lot of couples are holding smaller weddings right now. Even though wedding guest restrictions have been lifted in England a lot of venues are still having to cap the number of guests allowed due to social distancing or many couple are even opting for a micro wedding after seeing the beauty of a small and simple wedding. I don’t think this is the death of big weddings but I do think the tide has certainly turned and we’ll be seeing a lot more small, budget friendly and DIY weddings in the future.
Creating wedding stationery that packs a punch
There’s a common misconception that smaller weddings can’t have all the things that big weddings have. People think of small budget weddings and think that you have to cut loads of stuff out to keep down the costs. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Being a small budget bride is about being clever with your money and learning one or two new skills along the way. The idea of undertaking wedding DIY’s might sound terrifying at first but with a few basics you can definitely create something beautiful.
What I like about wedding DIY’s is not only do they save you money but you can perfectly execute your vision without having to try and explain what said vision is to someone else. You can have an idea and just run with it. Wedding stationery is one of those small details that really ties together the theme of your day. Wedding invitations are really the first glimpse of your wedding day that guests get but boy can they be expensive! Designing your own invitations can actually be super simple though. All you need is some good quality card and a printer (or have them printed somewhere like Vistaprint where you can upload your own design to a blank invite), some ideas to play around with and some nice free fonts. You can keep them nice and simple or bright and colourful. Think about the tone of your day or the theme and have a play around with some different fonts and colours and see what works well.
It’s best to come up with a few designs so you can compare. You might find you like different bits from each of your designs in which case you could come up with something that incorporates all the elements you like from each design. There’s no right or wrong way to design your wedding stationery. It’s about coming up with something that you like and that really set the scene for your wedding day.
Wedding signs – a necessity or an indulgence?
Wedding signage has become big news over the last few years. From welcome signs to elaborate table plans, unplugged ceremony signs, guestbook rules, photobooth instructions and more. If there’s a lot going on at your wedding then chances are you’ve thought about incorporating some signs here and there. If you’re keeping things small and relaxed though then wedding signs definitely fall into the indulgence category rather than being a necessity. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a few indulgences on your wedding day. The key here is to think about what wedding signs you really need and don’t go overboard with them. Guests will probably get a little bit fed up being bombarded with signs and rules. A simple welcome sign outside the venue or a fun photobooth sign with your wedding hashtag displayed adds a nice little touch though.
When it comes to designing your wedding signage, that bit’s super easy as pretty much the same rules from wedding stationery apply. Have fun creating, use free fonts and graphics where possible and don’t overthink it. Just enjoy the process.
So there are my top tips for creating your own wedding stationery and wedding signage if you’re on a small budget or having a small wedding. Have fun with the process and don’t overthink it. Guests won’t know or care whether you’ve created something yourself or not but you’ll have the satisfaction of having a hand in shaping your wedding day into a true reflection of you and your partner. That’s what is so special about wedding DIY’s.

Before I started planning my own wedding, I had no clue about wedding stationery – I didn’t even know it was a thing. It’s a lovely add-on for sure but having the option and inspiration to do it myself is a God send!

Love the idea of making your own invites! You can still have a beautiful day on a budget and plus it’s about the moment you’re sharing together x
I love these ideas! Sometimes, you just have to make your own, especially when what idea you have isn’t available anyway. Not to mention saving money doing so too!
Thanks for sharing 🙂

Yes definitely, it’s a great way to create something unique and save money.
I think it’s such a nice idea to do some of the decor yourself!
Yes definitely, I love that we’re going to have some DIY bits at our wedding.
What a lovely idea to create your own invites! I would love to do something like this for mine, I feel it’s a lot more personal! x
Wow this is such a cute idea, and very good if you’re looking for a fun activity but you also want to save a little money. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you!
This is such a lovely idea and a great way to create something truly special but also unique to mark your special day. We didn’t make our own wedding stationary. But we did create a design to have printed on all our thank you cards etc. Plus I think people would be surprised about how creative or arty they can be even if they don’t feel they have a talent in the area.
Yes definitely. It’s a lot easier than people think!
When my aunt got married she got together with her lady friends before the occasion and spent happy times telling stories whilst twisting paper flowers to string into decorations. They also filled mason jars and old bottles with little tea candles to hang from the trees prominent at the wedding.
It was a special time and one with its own flare of DIY that brought the people together.
Thanks for sharing your take on the tale! <3
Oh that sounds amazing and such a lovely memory to have.
