June 2019 wedding planning update

I've decided to start posting wedding updates so I can look back and so you can see what we've been up to and where so are with planning. There won't be updates every month I don't think as there'll be some months where we won't have done anything but when I have news to share on planning it'll all be summed up in these posts!

As I only just set this blog up at the start of June there's a lot of planning you've missed out on as with having a small wedding we're fairly organised and we had a lot of things booked before The Thrifty Bride was a thing because of that I am planning a big post later in the week updating you on all the wedding planning that took place before this blog just so you can fully see where we're up to not just what we've done in June. I may also do individual posts on each thing in the future just so I can go into more detail.

The dress

So June turned out to be a big month wedding planning wise which was very unexpected. I said yes to the dress at the start of the month which I didn't think I'd be doing for a while yet. I couldn't leave the dress that made me feel like a Disney princess behind though. It's now hung up in my wardrobe where I'm trying hard not to take the bag out and look at it everyday. Luckily I trust my fiance not to peek at it. He's seen a couple of details and know some things about it which I'm completely fine with but he won't see the full dress until our wedding day. My Dad on the other hand knows absolutely nothing about my dress, other than I've bought it and which store it came from, he wants it to be a complete surprise until the day and won't even discuss wedding dresses because it makes him upset! He's such a softy.

The bouquet

For the longest time I didn't even know if I wanted a bouquet but on the same day as I bought my dress, my bouquet also started to take shape. I'm having an artificial one so I have a keepsake for after the wedding and to keep the cost down but it's looking beautiful already. A friend offered to make up my bouquet for me as she used to be a florist so it's all in her hands now. It's not finished yet but I can't wait to see the final product. For the girl who didn't even think she wanted a bouquet I'm beyond excited about it.

The DJ

When we first viewed our reception venue we were given a price for their resident DJ but told we could also use our own if we wanted. With only having a small informal reception we didn't think a DJ was necessary and we planned to create our own playlist and have our venue play it through their speakers which they were fine with. This month I started to put a little thought into the playlist and started to realise that even though we we're not having a lot of guests a playlist just wouldn't be right. There'll be a lack of atmosphere and no control over the songs been played. Luckily my Dad knows someone who Dj's so gave me his number. We're now pencilled in for our date and ready to finalse things in August when we've got the ceremony sorted. I'm really glad we decided to have a DJ. I'm all for saving money but sometimes cutting certain things out just doesn't work and this is one of them!

My full wedding planning so far post will be coming later in the week so look out for that. How are you all getting on with your planning? Let me know in the comments!
